While we tend to accept that contemporary art is a feast for the senses, actually, most of us tend to view art through the sense of vision. Thereafter, it becomes a matter of the intellect or else, a gut sense, but seldom does one realize that the sense of smell too, plays a role in art appreciation. Thus the opening of opening of SMELL ASSEMBLY, an artistic research project and exhibition by Ishita Dey and Mohammad Sayeed at KNMA-Saket, was a rare exhibit on view. It is the first exhibition of the series ‘Young Artists of Our Times’. This unique exhibition is curated by Akansha Rastogi and included a conversation around smells used for sensing the city. Listeners had an interesting interaction seeing the city through a unique angle of conversations around city smells.
