Sourabh hails from a family of artists albeit musicians where he was guided by his senses as well as his hearing disability, to opt for a visual medium. Success and recognition did not come easy as he could relate to the world and yet not communicate with it as easily. Being a fighter in spirit and action Sourabh has overcome every challenge with a smile. As he went about attending workshops and participating in groups and solo shows, he evolved many different styles that had a simple message. His sculptures froze in momentary action the charisma and devotion of the human spirit.
After graduating from Lucknow University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1993, Sourabh pursued an M. F. A. from the College of Art, Delhi. His patrons have taken his collection to Switzerland, France, Japan, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Spain and many parts of the country. Sourabh was also invited by the Margaret Arp Foundation and Pro Helvetica, Switzerland to imbibe the Art of Marble Sculpture in 1997.
Mazumdar’s bronze sculptures walk the line between refined realism and fluid intuition. His works are earthy and corporeal, expertly rendered from bronze and marble. His body of work embraces youthful, caricature-like faces; elongated, spectral heads; and geometric echoes of the human figure.
The Telegraph, quoted “The works of Sourabh Mazumdar reflects a simplicity of style that bestows on his creations a richer and more enduring significance.”
