Simi Nallaseth’s enchantment with art began when she created her first oil painting at the age of fourteen. That magical day swirled forth a joyful career in art and Simi completed a diploma in Applied Arts in Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai and got her Masters in Fine Arts at School of Visual Arts, New York. Simi’s artistic journey has been one of discovering artistic expression through various mediums. From exploring paintings and illustrations to animated films, storytelling and graphic novels, Simi has always searched for the flash of truth, that pure, original, inner vision that the divine whispers in every soul. This search for original truth and meaning has been Simi’s guiding principle in her artistic journey and always will be.
Simi has animated for the Oscar nominated Ice Age I, produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox. In New York, she also animated for several films, ad films and station ids. In India, she directed ad films and music videos for India’s leading performing artist Shiamak Davar, and music composers Ashutosh Phatak and Dhruv Ghanekar. Simi has also conceived a rock opera I with Ashutosh Phatak and co-written and animated feature Dream Blanket with Shaiontoni Bose, Zachary Coffin and Dinesh Kapoor. Her short films have won international awards and have been screened at international animation festivals. In Usa, her work has been published in Adweek, Pixel and Computer Graphics World and in India, in the DNA, Mumbai Mirror, and Animation Express.
For Teach for India’s musicals Princess Maya and Conference of the Birds, Simi taught art to children and designed costumes and sets. In May 2023, Simi taught a creative story workshop for the De-suung skilling program in Bhutan. In June 2024, she completed a graphic novel of Dream Blanket in collaboration with iBEST studios in Bhutan and publishers Vakils, Feffer & Simons Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai.
