July 8, 2023 @ 11:00 am - August 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm IST
Reverence, a position of authority coupled with gracefulness, and an intrinsic vitality/Shakti -are some of the characteristicsthat come to the mind of a realized being when they visualize the feminine form. This is deeply ingrained in the culture and traditions across India that is Bharat, also known as Ved Bhoomi! The adage “Yatra Naaryastu Pujyante Ramante Tatra Devata” from time immemorial stands as testimony to the awareness of the mystics. It means, “unless women are honored, divine beings won’t be pleased’.
The word Women not only includes men, but the feminine form encompasses the divine too… Saraswathi, the goddess of creativity, is worshipped as the source of knowledge, music, arts, and learning. Women have a natural inclination and ability in Arts and are often regarded as the embodiments of different forms of the goddess. Lakshmi represents wealth, prosperity & abundance, while Kali embodies the fierce& powerful aspects of femininity. Goddess Parvati represents the nurturing & maternal aspect of the feminine, and Goddess Durga symbolizes strength and valor.
Throughout the course of human civilization, women played a pivotal role in the arts, but their contributions haven’t received the desired attention, acclaim, or patronage due to various reasons and remained obscure. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the strength of women in art, as they create subtle, meaningful, and innovative works that challenge the status quo.
This exhibition celebrates the diverse representations of women’s power and creativity as embodied in different media of expression. It highlights the importance of acknowledging and celebrating women’s contributions to the art world and recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives they bring. Women have a long and rich history in the arts, with women artists creating stunning works of art that have stoodthe test of time; despite facing significant barriers and prejudices!
Women have always been at the forefront of Art -their contributions should be recognized and celebrated. Their strengths in bringing a unique perspective, collaborating and working in a community, addressing social & political issues, demonstrating resilience & determination, etc., have had a profound impact on the art world and will continue to shape it for years to come…
