Myth–Making and Divine Animals

March 4, 2023 @ 11:00 am - April 5, 2023 @ 7:00 pm IST

Gallery Threshold presents a group show titled ‘Myth-making and Divine Animals’ examining the aesthetics of our time and revisit myths and perhaps create a renewed story, looking at flora and fauna as divinity again. The exhibition starting from 4th March and will continue till 5th April, will showcase works by 8 artists – Anindita Bhattacharya, Avishek Sen, Debjani Bhardwaj, Dilip Ranade, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, K.G. Subramanyan, Tarshito Strippoli and V. Ramesh.

Conceptualised by Tunty Chauhan, the exhibition invites artists to revisit myths and weave a narrative around folk art traditions that centered around animals – showing them as divine and as intrinsic to our domestic life.

Tunty Chauhan says, “Myths often have cosmogonic overtones. They are narratives of a sacred nature, often connected with some ritual within any given culture. Secular and sacred myths co-exist and reflect a social order or values. We have invited the artists to critically examine in myth the distinct character of particular cultures, to perceive universal patterns. While some regard myth as contemporary and “alive”, others think of it as ancient or dormant.”
