Isolation and Introspection

March 1, 2021 @ 11:00 am - March 31, 2021 @ 7:00 pm IST

The show has been curated in a precise association with the artist’s psyche and thus molded by their experiences and inner turmoil’s. A compilation of artworks which are characterized by the introspective aspects of their creators’ mind is on view at Sanchit Art from 1st-31st March 2021. Titled ‘Isolation and introspection’, the show offers artworks by few eminent artists whose canvases are structured to a visual trajectory which speaks the language of their thoughts and emotions.

The tender and moisture laden abstracts of Ganesh Haloi leads the show, which evokes metaphysical elements within ordinary landscapes, through his personal style of sophisticated elegance and finish.  Creating his abstract narrative for depicting nature that goes beyond visual documentation, he has erased human presence from his visual panorama giving way to a sublime expression of his inner psyche. Haloi says“Isolation is the most important factor in these paintings. You are alone with nature, and then you become part of it –you participate in it.”

Other important works in the selection include Arpana Caur’s canvases which manipulates the pictorial space in her own her idiosyncratic style.  ‘Seller’ by Manoj Dutta, is inspired by his personal observations and deeply rooted in native Indian style, while integrating a distinctly modern sensibility in his contemporary subjects.

Kishor Shinde’s heavily textured and layered canvases are structured to a visual trajectory which speaks a language of non-figurative symbols. A distinct feature of Ashok Bhowmick’s works is his manipulation in his rendering of images, which makes living objects appear frozen, and energizes inactive, lifeless elements. The collective effect of this is a sense of silence that pervades through his paintings. Jaya Ganguly’s works stands out for her own imperatives through her imagery of ‘painless pain’. She transmits the fear of our shared mortality through her imagery, increasing our awareness of our vulnerable and failing bodies. Her figures are lethargic, unfathomable and deep, victims and survivors that attracts and repels at the same time.

Bronze sculptures: Referring to his evolution from landscapes to abstracts, clay modelling, oil paintings and to sculptures and installations, Maity says: “The change in my work has been natural and spontaneous. Just as milk becomes curd, buttermilk and ghee, in the same way my works evolve organically but, at their core, remain the same.”

Paresh Maity’s core is taking inspiration from nature and the life around him. “Aristotle had said all art is nothing but nature and that’s how it’s for me,” Maity says.

Neeraj Goswami’s, drawings have always had an inclination towards sculpture. “Here in these sculptures, I am moving my forms around and switching dimensions in their physical state.”

The group show brings together works created by these master artists as their responses to the life altering occurrences they have dealt with.
