Alkaa Khanna
“To be an artist, is to believe in life… This quote by Henry Moore has always inspired her. As a self taught artist, she has always believed in herself and life. Her journey of life has been beautiful, inspiring and has motivated her to paint which she has been doing for the last thirty five years using various media in art.
Art and the quest for learning it go together for her. With her high pressured job in Corporate Communications and family responsibilities, she always found time for learning art and its various forms. India with its wealth of folk, traditional art has always fascinated and inspired her. In her art journey, she has travelled to a number of places in different states to learn the nuances of Tanjore, Madhubani, Kalamkari, Miniature art.
According to her, art is meditation and helps a person to reach his innerself and be conscious. Creating art has many therapeutic benefits and it connects one to the world in profound ways. Even the art of observation makes us appreciate the beauty around us. It provides a refreshing distraction from day to day challenges. Art therefore, is a saviour for her and it brings joy and happiness all around.
She has experimented in various mediums and has carved out a niche for myself… be it oils, watercolours, acrylic, fabric, folk art, murals and stained glass.
For a GMDA Project for “Making Gurgaon Beautiful”, she was a team leader for Wall Art which gave her an exposure to Community Art, right from the concept, visualisation and execution.
She has organised and held exhibtions of her paintings at The India Habitat Centre, Ramari Art Gallery, Renge Art Walk, and The Global Art Fair, Mumbai etc.
As an Artpreneur, her endeavour is to educate and motivate people to identify, explore their creative self and step into the beautiful world of Art for inner peace, joy and fulfilment.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Arts by Alkaa
“Art not only challenges the heart but also inspires the mind and encourages creativity”. It is something which makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness.
Arts by Alkaa is a beautiful bouquet of art created with love and passion. It is a display of creative work …. be it Abstracts, Nature, Divinity or Indian Folk Art. These art forms are inspired from life experiences gathering inspiration from nature, human life and emotion.
1. Abstracts
Abstracts are open to interpretation, and are all about form, color, line, texture, pattern, composition and process. Understanding abstracts requires an open mind and a big imagination. The swirling slopes, an array of colorful patterns, or pure energy and cosmic flow, all form a part of abstracts.
2. Divinity
Divinity exists in many forms. It exists in you and me and the aliveness of the earth. God is the infinite field of all that exists. Divine is the power that moves the Universe.
3. Florals
The language of flowers is unique in its own way. They tell a story and are symbols and gestures of sentiments and emotions. They also symbolise birth and rebirth. Art throughout the ages has demonstrated that flowers have a universal language that communicates deeper messages through color and form
INDIAN FOLK ART
“Folk” paintings date back to a period that may be referred to as “timeless”. These are living traditions, intrinsically linked with the regional historic-cultural settings from which they arise. India is a rich treasure house with its folk art from different states which has distinctive styles.
1. Madhubani Paintings
These paintings originate from “Mithila” area- specifically Madhubani village of Bihar. “Madhubani” means “forest of honey”. The striking features are the bright colors, stylised forms and themes inspired from mythology and day to day life.
2. Pichwai Paintings
Pichwai paintings originated over 400 years ago, in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. Intricate and visually stunning, Pichwai paintings, made on cloth, depict tales from Lord Krishna’s life who is often depicted as Shrinathji in Pichwais. Other common subjects found in Pichwai paintings are Radha, gopis, cows and lotuses.
3. Gond Paintings

In this form of painting art is created using carefully drawn lines to convey a sense of movement to still images. Vivid colors, dots and dashes are used to increase the details.
