A group show inspired by Sant Kabir

A mystic poet, Sant Kabir, was born in Varanasi, and he is revered for his critical perspective on organized religion. Despite this, Kabir plays a vital role in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Sufism. This exhibition, titled “Kabir’s Verses in Visual Celebration” pays homage to him through art.

As artists, we are part of a society that continually inspires us and fuels our creativity. Our connection to Kabir runs deep. Artists often transcend specific religious affiliations, focusing instead on the universal search for truth through our creations. We hold steadfast beliefs in humanity, simplicity, love, and the beauty of life and nature. Kabir’s ideology profoundly aligns with the artist’s journey in the pursuit of truth. Kabir questioned the meaningless and unethical practices. He inspired everyone, transcending the boundaries of specific religions. He taught that “truth” resides with those on the righteous path, who see everything-both living and nonliving—as divine, and who remain peacefully detached from worldly affairs. To know the truth, he encouraged shedding the ego… he said “myself” and ‘me’ must be avoided. His enduring legacy continues to inspire us.

As a Julaha, or weaver by profession, Kabir intricately wove his wisdom into poetry that resonates through songs, urging society toward profound inner and outer transformation through self-reflection and the search for meaning. His simple yet powerful language of love and compassion breaks down barriers, uniting us all. Kabir stands as a timeless inspiration, and we, as artists from various mediums, are excited to come together to celebrate his message and share it in innovative ways. This exhibition is a quest through art on Kabir’s philosophy.

Kabir remains an enduring source of inspiration for all. The weaver skillfully intertwines pearls of wisdom with threads of contemplation, ultimately crafting a ‘chadar’ of substance that encapsulates a life experienced in both ignoranceand bliss. It is with this spirit that we, as artists from various backgrounds, working across diverse mediums, have come together to express our thoughts and share his messages in new and meaningful ways. This tapestry reflects our shared experiences, reminding us of the complexities of existence.
