HOME?! Exhibition: Redefining the essence of home

Corners of Home

What does “home” really mean? Is it simply a place to rest, eat, or escape the heat? TRI Art & Culture’s latest exhibition, 🏠 HOME?! বাড়ি घर, pushes the boundaries of these conventional ideas, inviting visitors to rethink the very essence of what a home can be. The immersive and thought-provoking exhibition challenges our understanding of domestic spaces, turning the familiar zone into something unfamiliar and creative.
Curated by Lekha Poddar and featuring pieces from the Devi Art Foundation collection, 🏠 HOME?! offers a surrealistic take on interior spaces. But this is not a home in the typical sense. A chair does not offer comfort, a dining table does not promise moments, and a lamp fails to signal the arrival of nightfall. The exhibition complements form with function, blurring art and reality. It encourages vigilance, reflection, and imagination about home as more than a structure. This reimagined space transforms home to a place of coming, desire, and above all imagination.
Art has always been an integral part of my life for ages and while I got to know about this newly established center in Kolkata, I thought it would be an ideal way to spend the weekend amidst the art collections. The 1940-s era mansion once belonged to the Thapar family. Later the building was carefully restored, maintaining the heritage facade, the interiors were reimagined to accommodate two levels of gallery spaces. The center’s name, TRI, references the building’s unique triangular shape and symbolizes the idea of exploring, and discovering new cultural experiences.
The exhibition is a mastermind of ideas which represents home in a different light altogether, from a ‘dalan’ to a dining space, from locks to typewriter, every corner decodes home but in a modern way. I absolutely loved each detail of every piece of art. The center will continue hosting a wide new array of exhibitions, performances and public events where art lovers can immerse themselves in various forms of artistic expression.
Don’t forget to experience the serenity in TRI while you are in the city.
