Urban Insignia – An exhibition by Swapan Bhandary

Urban Insignia is an exhibition of paintings by Swapan Bhandary that explores city life, its energy, confusion, and hidden stories. Through bold colours and busy, detailed compositions, he captures what it feels like to live in a modern city.
Swapan’s paintings are filled with various objects and figures, some beautiful, some ordinary, some disturbing, and some comforting. Each element has a reason to be there, holding memories, emotions, and personal meaning. These elements come together like pieces of a puzzle, reflecting the artist’s thoughts and experiences of the city.
By making his paintings crowded and full, he depicts the feeling of being surrounded by people, noise, and movement, just like in a real city. The title Urban Insignia refers to the signs, symbols, and marks that the city leaves on us, and that we leave behind as we move through it.
This exhibition invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and find meaning in the visual noise, much like one would in a city street.
