A Moment in Modernity
A Moment in Modernity is a landmark exhibition of works by artists Sharmila Thakur and Haren Thakur, curated by acclaimed art historian Dr. Alka Pande. The show presents the couple’s distinct yet complementary artistic practices—Sharmila’s earthy, vibrant sculptures and paintings inspired by tribal life and nature, and Haren’s large-format mixed media paintings exploring metaphysical and structural possibilities of the natural world. Both artists, trained at Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan, bring a deep connection to tribal culture, Eastern modernism, and indigenous materials into their work. The exhibition also features an interactive session with the artists and Dr. Mandakini Devi on the closing day.
