Held in Time: Shailja Art Gallery Presents a Thought-Provoking Group Exhibition at India Habitat Centre

Shailja Art Gallery proudly presents “Held in Time,” a significant group exhibition that brings together the works of fifteen distinguished contemporary artists, each exploring the intricate relationship between memory, form, identity, and lived experience. The exhibition opens on 11 October 2026 at the prestigious Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, and will remain on view until 15 October 2026.
Curated by Shailja Jain, Founder-Director of Shailja Art Gallery, Held in Time invites viewers into a contemplative visual journey where personal histories, collective memories, and fleeting moments are transformed into enduring artistic expressions. Through diverse mediums, styles, and perspectives, the participating artists examine how time shapes human experience and how art serves as a vessel for preserving moments that might otherwise fade.
The exhibition features works by renowned artists Bhakti Lad, Bharti Prajapati, Bipin Kumar, Charudatt Pande, Haren Thakur, Harshwardhan Devtale, Joel Gill, Lipishree Nayak, Monalisa Sarkar, Mukesh Bijole, Rakhi Kumar, Renuka Sondhi Gulati, Sanjay Kumar Srivastav, Sharmila Sharma, and Sekhar Kar. Together, their works create a compelling dialogue that transcends individual narratives and speaks to universal themes of remembrance, transformation, and continuity.
Adding distinction to the occasion, eminent artist and art writer Ashok Bhowmick will grace the inauguration as the Chief Guest. His longstanding contribution to contemporary Indian art and art criticism lends further significance to this much-anticipated gathering of artistic voices.
Speaking about the exhibition, curator Shailja Jain notes that Held in Time seeks to explore the ways in which experiences become embedded within artistic practice. The exhibition encourages viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with works that capture the subtle interplay between memory and materiality, presence and absence, permanence and impermanence.
As contemporary art continues to respond to rapidly changing social and cultural landscapes, Held in Time offers a meaningful space for introspection, inviting audiences to rediscover the narratives that shape individual and collective consciousness.
