Open Hand Art Studios: Chandigarh’s Gift to Young Printmakers

Award Announcement

The Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi (CLKA) has announced its Open Hand Art Studios Scholarship & Award 2026–27, reaffirming the city’s role as a hub of artistic innovation. This initiative, supported by Chahal Machine Tools (Mohali), is designed to empower young printmakers with access to professional facilities and creative residencies.

At the Le Corbusier Centre, Sector-19, selected artists will work with state-of-the-art etching presses and explore disciplines beyond printmaking, including painting and sculpture. The program reserves 60% of awards for Tricity artists while welcoming applicants nationwide, striking a balance between local roots and national reach.

By inviting printmakers aged 20–35 to apply before 28th August 2026, CLKA extends more than an opportunity—it offers a platform for dialogue, experimentation, and cultural growth. The symbolism of the “open hand” resonates deeply here: generosity, mentorship, and artistic freedom.

In a time when traditional practices risk being overshadowed, this scholarship ensures that printmaking remains vibrant and relevant, nurturing the next generation of artists who will carry forward Chandigarh’s legacy of creativity.
