Krishen Khanna at 100 : The Last Progressive

To mark the centenary of one of India’s most revered modern masters, the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, presents Krishen Khanna at 100: The Last Progressive — the first-ever museum retrospective of the artist’s eight-decade-long practice. Curated by Dr Zehra Jumabhoy and Kajoli Khanna, this landmark exhibition spans all four floors of NGMA Mumbai, tracing Khanna’s artistic evolution from the 1940s to the present.
The exhibition brings together rare and never-before-seen works from public and private collections, as well as the artist’s personal archives, letters, and photographs. From his early Partition paintings and abstract works of the 1960s to his iconic depictions of musicians, labourers, and everyday people, the show offers an intimate and layered portrait of an artist whose humanist vision shaped the language of Indian modernism. A celebration of memory, resilience, and belonging, Krishen Khanna at 100 is a tribute to the last living member of the Progressive Artists’ Group and his enduring legacy in shaping the course of Indian art.
