Ojas Art presents ‘Drawing Life’, an exhibition that pays tribute to the enduring allure of Warli Art

Anubhav Nath, Director of Ojas Art, presents ‘Drawing Life’ exhibition, a profound exploration curated by the distinguished artist, curator, and educator, Nikhil Purohit. This exhibition transcends cultural and traditional boundaries, revealing the seamless coexistence of Warli art with both indigenous and contemporary influences.

The Warli tribe, with roots dating back to 2500 BC, eloquently express their ancestral cultures through ritualistic wall paintings. Traditionally crafted using humble materials like soil, cow dung, and rice paste, these murals have been enduringly employed to commemorate weddings, ceremonies, and joyous occasions. The 1970s marked a significant turning point when Jivya Soma Mashe pioneered the transition of Warli art from walls to canvases, elevating it to one of India’s most recognized and celebrated art forms, celebrated for its simplicity and evocative power.

The ‘Drawing Life’ exhibition will showcase an impressive collection of approximately 20 artworks, with many of them commanding grand dimensions, measuring up to 5 feet by 8 feet. These captivating pieces serve as a testament to the artists’ mastery of Warli art, renowned for its rhythmic, minimalist forms that elegantly convey the intricacies of life.
