Dylan Molloy came to notoriety for his eccentric yet stunning representations of the human form and
is exhibiting in a Solo Show at the intimate ‘Akshara Theater’ this October

An eminent Irish artist, Dylan Thomas Patrick Molloy has revealed his fresh collection ‘Juxtaposition’ to be displayed in our much-loved city New Delhi beginning the 21st of October at our treasured Akshara Theater. Molloy is known worldwide for his seductive portrayal of the female form, working with a variety of mediums including charcoal, water colors, inks and acrylics. He has previously hosted several successful exhibitions in a number of cities across the globe, Belfast and New York being the most popular.

Dylan Molloy has been creating and selling artwork while travelling the world for over fifteen years now. The incident that sparked his love affair with drawing was a terrible motorbike accident in Greece thirteen years ago. To him, travelling is analogous with ‘being curious’ just like an artist’s brush while exploring a canvas, treating it with the same natural inquisitiveness and intrepidness.

Regarding the art show being in India, Molloy specified, “India is a sensory overload both visually and auditory. Seeing the way people thrive here, the vibrant colors through the smog, the holy Babas who surrender their life to meditation and their nomadic wanderings; all of which have helped my art evolve. This is where I have chosen to stay for a while, to take in all the aspects of human life and portray them to the best of my abilities.” An autodidactic artiste, Dylan, describes this show as an amalgamation of contemporary vintage pin-up noir and the Indian spiritual enlightenment. “A paradox of themes,” says Dylan, “is the symbolic representation of the old and the new thriving mutually, as I find prevalent in the rich tapestry that is India.”

‘Aashavan’ the central piece in this collection is the portrayal of a Hindu Sadhu, “….awaiting the end patiently while on a journey to cleanse his soul and attain the highest level of spiritual goodness,” says Molloy.

The Akshara Theatre was founded in 1972 by Lt. Shri Gopal Sharman: playwright, poet, musician, theatre and television director; and his actress wife Jalabala Vaidya along with their daughter Anasuya Vaidya Shetty. Akshara Theater is one of India’s most reputable and respectable art institutions.

‘Juxtaposition’ will run at Akshara from the 21st until the 29th of October, 2016.

Address: The Akshara Theater, 11-B, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Next to RML Hospital Exit 5, New Delhi 110001
