Curated by Sonam Jha in collaboration with Amit Kumar Jain\, the exhibition brings together an exceptional collection of Mithila paintings from 1968–1985. These artworks\, initially created by women to commemorate life events like weddings and festivals\, embody themes of prosperity\, fertility\, and spirituality. \nThe exhibition features: \n– Rare\, early Mithila artworks on paper that mark the transition from traditional wall paintings\, supported by governmental initiatives. \n– Works by renowned artists like Mahasundari Devi\, Baua Devi\, Jagdamba Devi\, Anmana Devi\, Mahamaya Devi\, and Nityanand Jha. \n– A rare inclusion of works by male artists who engaged in Mithila painting for religious or livelihood purposes. \n– A diverse range of themes\, including mythology\, folklore\, daily rituals\, and ceremonial traditions\, all rendered in vivid pigments and intricate detail. \nThe exhibition explores Mithila art’s evolution into a dynamic and living tradition. It emphasizes how this art form has acted as a vehicle for community-building\, storytelling\, and intergenerational wealth while continuing to thrive in the contemporary era. \nPresented by the Inherited Arts Forum—a collaboration between Exhibit 320 and Blueprint12—this initiative aims to elevate the visibility of folk and tribal art forms\, providing a platform for these traditions to be celebrated in contemporary cultural dialogues. \nThis exhibition is a tribute to the resilience\, creativity\, and cultural legacy of Mithila artists.
