SUMMARY:With Her Hair Running Wild
DESCRIPTION:With Her Hair Running Wild presents works spanning key phases of Seema Kohli’s artistic journey\, from fleeting sketches made during the night to early explorations of colour at Triveni\, and eventually to the bold palettes and intricate patterns that define her mature practice today. Between these moments lie narratives of domestic rupture\, feminine solidarity\, and the gradual reclaiming of artistic voice. Drawing on stories of undomesticated goddesses and impassioned gods\, the works uphold the possibility of regeneration amidst stifling convention.

SUMMARY:Bodies of Sky\, Bodies of Earth
DESCRIPTION:Bodies of Sky\, Bodies of Earth brings together works across terracotta\, woodcut\, embroidery\, sculpture\, and painting to explore the idea of the body as an archive of earth\, species\, and stories. In Kohli’s practice\, form is never inert– a terracotta vessel holds the memory of fired soil\, an embroidered bird carries echoes of migration\, and wooden goddesses become repositories of entire ecosystems. Drawing from ecological\, mythological\, and spiritual registers\, the exhibition unfolds as a meditation on what bodies remember\, contain\, and transform over time.

SUMMARY:Folklore
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Ragini presents a Solo show of recent works by Gond artist\, Dhavat Singh. The words of folklore are rarely written down\, and only now\, when the fear of oblivion looms. The paintings Dhavat creates are a reflection of the village he hails from and talk of these stories – of birds ready to hold up the sky\, peacocks losing their crowns to vanity\, and even the conception of the Earth. His attention to detail and ability to craft narratives through his work has allowed him to retain some of the waning folklore that dotted his childhood.

SUMMARY:Time in a Prism
DESCRIPTION:Gallerie Nvya opens 2023 with a show Time in a Prism\, a suite of harmonious and serenely ordered\, landscapes by the Ahmedabad dweller Nabibakhsh Mansoori. The show curated by art critic Uma Nair who authored SH Raza’s Reverie with Raza (Mapin publications & Akar Prakar -2016) is a show that celebrates an artist’s love for his land. Gujarat-born Nabibakhsh does landscapes that hum with colors and dulcet fragments of everyday idioms. \n“His compositions nevertheless possess a sense of the remarkable degree of fluidity as well as an in-depth measure of meditative moorings. Ahmedabad dweller Nabibaksh has a deep understanding of pictorial elements of urban and geomorphic forms\, subtle shifts in surface textures\, and electrifying exchanges between warmer and cooler colors in which all his movements are dynamically interactive\, as well as responsive to one another in complex\, prismatic arrangement. Rhythmic resonance and the harmonious alteration of giving and taking\, life and death all become a part of his gateway to dreams in a landscape\,” says curator Uma Nair. \nThe show will open on 16th January 2023 run for a month and will include curatorial walk-throughs and talks with students of Delhi College of Art\, Jamia Milia University\, as well as School of Planning & Architecture students and faculty members on different days.

SUMMARY: Dhārā
DESCRIPTION:Art Musings is delighted to present Dhārā\, bringing together recent works by renowned artist Jayasri Burman. This exhibition features a set of ideas that has absorbed Burman over the last several years: Birth\, Nature\, the Sacred Feminine. Fables and folk tales from her childhood creep into the narrative\, which is full of myth and magic\, rituals and festivals. She invests in the archetypal figure of the Great Mother\, manifested as the Devi\, the guardian of waters both still and flowing\, attended by animals symbolically associated with fertility and plenitude. Her paintings have an altar-like quality\, and depict Nature as divinity. \nA monograph publication authored by poet and cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote featuring an essay and poems specially written in response to this body of works by Burman\, accompanies the exhibition.
