Can one make out the difference between a young woman artist and an established woman artist? Fundamentally both of them work towards establishing a subjectivity, demand presence and voice and create a space of their own. But for an established woman artist things become much easier and the issues that they treat in their works, however they pertain to the feminine subjectivity and existential issues, find an objective treatment. In the meanwhile, the young woman artists who treat the same issue might end up in raising their voices in high pitch using very bold and aggressive imageries. It happens because they want themselves to be heard and seen. They want their subjectivities to be identified and recognized by larger society. In ‘Allegories’ six young woman artists explore their individual subjectivities within the contexts of their living and practicing. Interestingly, instead of making high and harsh ideological posturing, they have chosen the path of matured women artists who contain their ideological sharpness in some kind of allegories that would function as stands in stories for their visual autobiographical intervention in the larger discourse of visual arts. Allegories are generally used for contextualising an issue through a narrative that does not have any direct relationship with the issue that is primarily in debate. Here in the case of these six woman artists, their subjectivity is the primary issue however they do not vivify it directly. They prefer to take a different narrative, which qualifies itself to be called an allegory.
